What damage to the eye does the sun cause?
*Macular degeneration * Cataracts *Keratitis *Pterygia *Pingucula *Actinic Keratopathy *Skin cancer around the eyes

Is there a difference is UV sunglasses?
Yes. There is quite a difference in sunglasses. Many times people decide to get "cheap" sunglasses because they are afraid they will lose them or they will get broken. The problem with "cheap" sunglasses is they are not optically ground lenses and they distort your vision ever so slightly. This is the reason many people get headaches with sunglasses. Wearing optical quality sunglasses with proper UV protection against all the harmful rays is one of the most important things you can do. Also, "cheap" sunglasses, which do not protect your eyes fully from UV rays, can cause more damage than no sunglasses at all because they can cause your eye to dilate behind the sunglass lens and actually let more harmful UV rays into your eyes.

Is it important to protect children's eye from the sun?
Children are outside more than adults, therefore they are exposed to more harmful rays. Protecting their eyes starting at a young age is very important to their long term eye health. Be sure to invest in your child's eye health by making sure they have proper UV protection.

ARE YOU PROTECTING YOUR EYES FROM THE SUN?

The ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause a lot of damage to your eyes. Unlike a skin burn however, this damage is caused without the person being aware of it. It is done when you walk from the grocery store to your car or do yard work or walk to your car after work. All these little trips add u to years of exposure to UV rays. This UV ray exposure we all get everyday can cause Cataracts and contribute to Macular Degeneration as well as other eye conditions. The way to protect your eyes is with good quality sunglasses that are UV protected at all wavelengths. Having good quality sunglasses are important whether or not you wear prescription glasses. Help protect your most valuable asset and make sure you wear good quality sunglasses for the health of your eyes.
