Dr. Barbara Marcussen completed a residency in eye disease after graduation from Optometry School in Ohio. Additionally, she taught at the University of Alabama Eye Disease Clinic before entering private practice optometry. She is an officer of the Gaston Breakfast Rotary Club and is actively involved in Jaycees, and Gaston County Junior League. By serving on the Board for the Belmont Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Marcussen can effectively make a difference in the community where she practices optometry. Dr. Marcussen is a mentor for Gaston County Schools and enjoys working with children. She is a member of the national, state and local Optometric Associations. Her favorite past time includes spending time with family and friends, reading and traveling.
Dr. Harald Vaher completed a residency at the University of Alabama after graduating from the Ohio State University. He is a Secretary for the Belmont Rotary Club and an active member of the Belmont Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Vaher serves on the Gaston County Board of Health and is a member of Myers Memorial Methodist Church. Nationally, he is a member of the American Optometric Association while he focuses primarily on involvement with many local professional associations. Leisure time involves golf, working out, and visiting friends, family and trips to the beach.
Dr. Hilary Gesford has completed a residency in pediatrics and vision therapy at Southern College of Optometry. She has a special interest in helping to ensure children use their eyes to process information as quickly and easily as possible to prevent any developmental delays and to maximize their learning and performance in school. Many children can have "20/20" vision but still struggle in school.
Dr. Gesford has the additional training to diagnose and treat visual information processing problems which can result in children not performing at their best during school. These difficulties often manifest themselves as problems in reading, writing, mathematics or sports.
Drs. Vaher and Marcussen have always been interested in the needs of our community and that is why we wanted to bring a residency trained Vision Therapy specialist into our practice. In fact, Complete Eye Care is the ONLY eye care practice in the county where all the doctors are residency trained.
