My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: Before therapy, Sawyer was not a very fluent reader. He had problems with skipping words and had trouble skipping lines as he read down the page. He also struggled with math problems that involved adding together several numbers in the thousands. His eyes could not keep the lines of numbers straight.
After Vision Therapy: Sawyer has become a more fluent reader and actually enjoys reading more. He no longer has to use a bookmark to avoid skipping lines. He also is able to add together several large numbers without having to use a card to keep the lines straight.

Have all your goals been met? Yes
Please comment: It has helped me.
Would you recommend vision therapy to others? Yes
Comments: It is worth it. It helps you read and write and will help you in sports.
My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: Sam had headaches and could only read/see things if they were positioned very closely to his eyes. He also had difficulty catching the football and playing other sports (he had a hard time seeing the ball). He’s always been an advanced reader and we never knew the physical toll it had on him.
After Vision Therapy: Within a few weeks of vision therapy, the headaches were gone and Sam’s eyes weren’t sore/tired after therapy treatments. He started being able to focus better and was more interested in sports than before.

My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: My son entered kindergarten at the age of four. He had scored above the 97th percentile in standardized tests and has a high IQ. Imagine my surprise when he transformed into star student in kindergarten to having marginal scores in writing and reading in first grade! He began hating school; homework was stressful. My intuition told me something was terribly wrong and I started searching for answers. Three optometrists confirmed my son had several profound deficiencies which interfered with his learning.
After Vision Therapy: Vision therapy with Dr. Gesford has helped my son improve his reading skills, achieve his AR goals and restore his confidence. Homework no longer takes hours to complete. Additionally, Dr. Gesford was very accommodating in tweaking assignments to intrinsically motivate my son’s participation in biweekly sessions. Her vision therapy assignments offered fun, transformative challenges.

My Success Story
What changes have you noticed since beginning vision therapy? Things don’t switch. I am reading better and lots of other great things.
Have all your goals been met? Yes
Please comment: I’m not reversing letters any more and I am starting to read.
Would you recommend vision therapy to others? Yes
Comments: Because it has helped me so much!
My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: Will said that the letters and numbers moved and “jumped” around on the page. He wrote letters and numbers backwards. The worst part was when my child looked at me and said he was “stupid” because he couldn’t read and he knew he wasn’t like “other kids.” He had no confidence and would get angry when trying to do school work.
After Vision Therapy: My son came to me and told me things weren’t “jumping” around anymore. He reads letters and words out loud to me so proud he doesn’t mix the letters up. The best is he is excited about books and learning to read. E still has a few problems especially when he is tired or can’t concentrate. However the whole experience has changed for the better.

My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: Before therapy, she complained of double vision. I noticed she could not see far away. She would misspell the spelling words in class. She could not see the clock in my car from her seat in the back. She would cover one eye when watching TV or always stand too close.
After Vision Therapy: After therapy, she started wearing glasses. She stopped covering her eye, was able to see the spelling words and the clock in my car. I noticed a difference within the first 2 months.

After Vision Therapy: Her left eye looks straight ahead most of the time. I noticed her handwriting improved and she now colors neatly. She knows many sight words. Victoria’s kindergarten teacher said her glasses made a big difference in class.

Caden
My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: Caden was having extreme difficulty with written expression. His handwriting was very bad, spacing and capitalization were not very good. Also, he had a tendency to skip words sometimes while reading. Spelling words incorrectly were also a huge problem.
After Vision Therapy: His reading comprehension and speed have improved and his handwriting is better. He has learned better spacing of letters when composing sentences and punctuation is more clear. Spelling is a little better, but he still tries to spell everything exactly as it sounds. He is a much more proficient reader than before this process began.

My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: My daughter had a lot of trouble reading. The lines would jump around the page and she would see double. She also had very little understanding of what she read because of this.
After Vision Therapy: Although she still has some trouble with letters and numbers switching, the lines stay still and she is no longer seeing double. Her reading level came up almost two grade levels during the school year and she is understanding a lot more of what she reads.

Isabel
My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: Isabelle struggled with several visual issues. Reading (especially out loud) was slow with several words out of order or skipped. Letter and number reversals were very common. Isabel had poor spacing between words when she was writing. She also had trouble with focus and was easily distracted, particularly because she was getting frustrated with her writing.
After Vision Therapy: Reading out loud is much better with fewer skipped words. Isabel has much better stamina when reading and has no trouble reading aloud for 20 minutes each night. Letter reversals are very rare and number reversals are fewer but not perfect (threes and fives in particular). Attention and focus are somewhat better but we're still struggling with focus and stamina during writing.

Abbygale
My Child’s Success Story!
Before Vision Therapy: Abigail had a right I turn out that was noticeable to almost anyone. It occurred more often when the sun was bright or if she was tired. We used to have to tell her to fix your eye which means she would blink and reset her eye.
After Vision Therapy: We never see her eye turn out at all. We are very happy with her progress.

Alex
Alex is a 10 year old from Gastonia, NC when he was first seen for an annual eye exam at Complete Eye Care in Belmont, NC. His medical history included Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Tourette’s Syndrome and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). It was discovered that Alex was seeing double vision at his comprehensive eye exam, and a vision therapy evaluation was recommended. At the vision therapy evaluation, Alex opened up about having trouble in school. His school wanted Alex tested with a psychoeducational professional because they thought he had a learning disability.
Alex also complained of not being able to stay on the line when writing, the poor spacing between words when writing and taking too long to copy things or write. Alex also had some other issues such as skipping lines when reading, and double vision when reading which made him have to go back and re-read everything. Issues reading and comprehending what he read were part of Alex’s everyday life as well. Alex knew he was having difficulty in school, and because of his other medical conditions, he was often picked on by other students.
Dr. Laura Ashe, the vision therapy specialist at Complete Eye Care prescribed several sessions of vision therapy for Alex. After completing the prescribed number of vision therapy sessions, Alex was able to write inside the lines, copywritten material faster and had better spacing between words. He also rarely skipped lines when reading and was not having to go back and re-read things nearly as much.
For Alex, one of the biggest changes he noticed after finishing vision therapy, was that he did not have double vision anymore. This was huge for him because the double vision always “drove him crazy.” Alex’s confidence soared higher as he was not having to work as hard at school. He also was not getting bullied at school as much, which was a huge for him and his mother! For Alex, vision therapy made a significant difference in his life.
Name: Alex.
Alex graduated from Vision Therapy on February 19, 2018.
